Profile of the last 3 for LASU VC Position

Just this Monday, 7th of December, 2015, the list of who occupies the seat of Number One citizen in Lagos State University was further pruned to Three Professors. The screening of the initial list of Professors vying for the post of Vice Chancellor of the prestigious Lagos State University brings us down to Professor Lanre Fagbohun, Professor Amidu Sanni and Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello. BlackBox Nigeria exclusively gathered that the above order of listing reflected the respective performance.

BlackBox Nigeria heard from grapevine that it is among these three that the Next Vice Chancellor will emerge after the shortlisted Candidates are presented to the Visitor of the University, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor of Lagos State.

BlackBox Nigeria brings to the fore profiles/resumes of the shortlisted three, which may also influence their choice of been chosen by the Visitor.

BlackBox Nigeria is of the opinion that Prof Fagbonhun stands a good chance of being the next VC because of his wealth of experience and being part of the decision-making body in the University for a long time. It is on record that he has done lots of Environmental Consultancy for Lagos State which will make the Visitor consider him being an ally of the State.

PROFESSOR AMID SANNI

Professor Sanni has been a Professor of Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies in Lagos State University, Department of Foreign Languages since November 2004 – till date.

He did his PhD in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies, between 1986-1989.

Professor Sanni who has authored many books and numerous contributions in both International and National Journal is the current Chief Imam of the LASU Central Mosque situated in the main campus, Ojo. He is a vocal voice when it comes to determining the affairs of the University and a force to reckon with in the political machinery of the school with a strong background from the LASU Muslim Community. He was one of the forces that ousted the controversial former VC, Professor Hussain from office in 2011.

Professor Sanni had his first Degree at the prestigious University of Ibadan (1977-80) and obtained his Master of Art in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the same University in 1984. He went to Ahmadiyya Grammar School, Ibadan, 1970-75

BlackBox Nigeria is of the opinion that he has a very good chance to become the next VC based on his background as a respected Islamic Scholar who currently dines with Who Is Who in Lagos State. The Muslim Community that wades strong influence in who becomes the Vice Chancellor of the University will also be putting their weight behind him. But will that work with the Visitor who is a Christain? We never can tell.
