David Beckham told journalist gathered at Old Trafford after Saturday’s UNICEF Charity match between Great Britain X1 and the Rest of the World that his eldest son Brooklyn is quitting football for photography.
Brooklyn had a failed trial with Arsenal and he came on with 15 minutes to go in a game his dad’s side managed by Sir Alex Ferguson won 3-1 which was graced by over 70,000 spectators.
Beckham senior gave his kid a good-luck kiss on the cheek as they swapped over, but seven minutes later the former Manchester United No.7 returned to the pitch to replace Sol Campbell.
“He did alright. One of my lasting memories of playing here was winning the Premiership and walking round with Brooklyn at 18 months old,” Beckham who has played seven matches across seven continents in the last nine days to raise millions for UNICEF said.
“It is difficult for him to get on my shoulders now but it was a special moment to play with him.
“It was a big decision having him out here today but I was very proud. Thankfully the manager thought it was something we should do. I wasn’t expecting to get back on but Sol came off, so I had my chance.
“He actually loves photography. That is one of his passions,’ said Beckham Snr.
“I have always said to my children, as long as they have a passion for something, we will encourage it.
“He does love football as well and I thought he did well for the 15 minutes he was on. His first cross was a great cross, and he got a corner onto his dad’s head, I have never been good at heading!
“He loves football, but has a passion for photography as well.”
